Recent upgrades in the City’s infrastructure are providing the right utilities in the right location to support businesses of all kinds, from manufacturing to office and retail. Community and economic development initiatives are a priority in the City and serviced through our Planning and Economic Development team at inSITE Advisory Group, which serves as the City’s development arm. Offering a wide variety of services to the community specifically to maintain and expand the reputation of Norton as a great place to live, work and play.  Working closely with developers, realtors, and the business community to actively promote and facilitate development efforts, inSITE’s focus is the betterment and continued growth and success of the City. They organize and promote the marketability of Norton through public and private sector partnerships, and utilize various local, state, and federal programming tools and funding sources.  The team attracts new economic development opportunities as well as aides in the rehabilitation of existing, vacant, and blighted properties within the community.

inSITE is tasked with key focus areas which include:

  • Business Retention and Expansion
  • Developer Attraction
  • Land Development

In order to further the expansion of existing and new business, the City implemented a CRA (Community Reinvestment Area) in 2015. The CRA program is an economic development tool that allows for certain tax incentives to property owners for eligible real property improvements.  The Community Reinvestment Area (CRA) Program is a direct incentive tax exemption program benefiting property owners who renovate existing or construct new buildings. The first recipient of the Norton CRA was KDA Manufacturing, an engineering, weld fabrication and machining company.

The City of Norton continues to be a prime destination for residential growth as well.  The City’s development of a Town Center, coupled with the construction of a state-of-the-art high school is yet another asset that will help create a strong economic climate providing Norton with a competitive advantage in attracting new business and residential opportunities.

Additional instruments in the Norton Economic Development toolbox, include strong ties with JobsOhio, the Ohio Development Services Agency and the Development Finance Authority. Each of these agencies play an important role in collaborating with our municipal leaders to invest in our community, paving the way for future growth and development.

  • The mission of the Development Finance Authority is to implement economic development financing initiatives that strengthen and diversify the economy of Summit County and Northeast Ohio by encouraging investment in business, industrial, transportation, distribution and community development projects.
