Notice to Festival Vendors and
Attendees:
The
20th Anniversary
Norton Cider Festival
(formerly known as the Loyal Oak Cider Festival) has
moved the location of the Festival
to the beautiful and
spacious
Columbia Woods Park area, located at
4060 Columbia Woods Dr., Norton OH 44203
How did the
Cider Festival begin?
by Blake Miller,
Lion's Club member and Originator of the 1st Cider Festival
The Cider Festival came about when the Loyal Oak Merchants
Association: Don and Susan Welch from Welch's Dairy
Cream, the Milkovich's of the Loyal Oak Tavern and Don
Nicolard from Nicolard's Salon, came to me as the President
of the Norton Lions with the idea of having some sort of
event to bring people to the Loyal Oak area. We
considered having an Octoberfest or some other various
event.
We ultimately decided to have a Cider Festival because of
all the years that the Lions Club members had been selling
cider at the intersection of Wadsworth Rd. and
Cleveland-Massillon Rd. due to the close location of the
historic cider mill located in the Loyal Oak area.
The first festival was held
September 23rd
and 24th of 1989. This was the year that
Hurricane Hugo landed on the United States and it reached
here in Norton at 5:00 am that Saturday. We had
torrential horizontal rain, but by 9:30 am it had stopped
raining and we had the parade.
It turned out to be a beautiful weekend!
I hope you
have the chance to come visit the 20th Anniversary Norton
Cider Festival, now located in the beautiful and spacious
Columbia Woods Park. We still plan a lot of the
traditional Festival activities, along with many new fun
things to do. We'll see you there!!

2008 Cider Festival Chair
