Equal Opportunity
The City of Norton is an equal opportunity employer. We consider applicants for all positions without regard to race, color, sexual orientation, religion, gender, national origin, age, marital or veteran status, the presence of the non-job-related medical condition or disability or any other legally protected status.
Personnel Information
Employment applications for the City of Norton are accepted for classified (civil service) employees only when notices have been posted for specific exams. Unsolicited resumes are not encouraged. Please contact 330-825-7815, extension 314 with any questions you may have.
Applications
Applications for posted personnel openings may be obtained at the City of Norton Administration Building. View or download the Employment Application (PDF). Completed applications may be returned to the City of Norton Administration Office.
Non-Classified Positions
Non-classified (usually part-time) positions may be applied for when we have an opening. Open classified positions are usually advertised in local newspapers, and some specialized positions may be advertised in out of the area newspapers. Notices are also posted on the Administration Building bulletin board. The Norton Civil Service Commission and the Ohio Revised Code set the parameters for the filling of classified employee job vacancies.
Classified Positions
Most full-time positions are classified positions. Some exceptions include: Directors, Clerk of Council, other positions excluded by Norton City Ordinance. All part-time employees and seasonal positions are non-classified positions.
Director
The City of Norton Administrative Officer serves as the Personnel Director. The Civil Service Commission is responsible for testing and preparing eligibility lists for original appointments, and for promotions of classified employees. Tests are usually developed by outside agencies and are job specific.
