EMS Billing FAQs
What is EMS Billing?
- EMS billing is a service fee charged by the Norton Fire Division for EMS services provided.
- Residents of the City and their dependents will be charged fees corresponding to the services provided. Any balance due from these individuals above their insurance coverage or Medicare/Medicaid coverage will be waived after all covered expenses have been paid to the City.
- For non-residents, the initial bill will go to a third-party payer, if available. If the bill is not covered by Medicare, Medicaid, or a health insurer, the individual will be billed.
Who handles the EMS Billing?
- The billing company who handles all EMS billing for the Norton Fire Division is EMS Management & Consultants (EMS/MC), formerly AccuMed. Ambulance bills and/or payments are not handled at the Norton Fire Station.
- EMS/MC will either send a Signature Authorization Form or an Insurance Information Update Form. Typically, they send these to patients who were not able to provide this information at the time of service or the information provided is no longer valid. It is requested for the patient to fill out the information on the back of the form and send it back to EMS/MC for them to finish the process.
Why is the address on the form for Norton Fire out-of-state? Is this a scam letter?
- There are two addresses used by EMS/MC for their EMS billing correspondence. These are both valid addresses for EMS/MC, even though they state "Norton Fire Division".
- EMS/MC is based out of Lewisville, NC and they used this address for receiving mail correspondence.
